She preferred the moon in the puddle at her feet
to the one in the sky;
the fact that something could be quietly beautiful
and keep pulling itself together
after being stepped on
helped her get through the night.

“ It is easier to write about strangers
because their eyes do not see me
the way yours do.

They look for pictures in the stars;
you are seeing the stars in me. ”

“ When I was a little girl
they told me I could be whatever I wanted.

They forgot to tell me that people would ask
my husband about his job
and me about the kids,
forgot to tell me that the company for which I work
will have more rights that I will,
forgot to tell me that my body will be up for debate in
political circles, internet forums, the comment sections
by people who cannot name the parts of woman
that make a child,
but will tell you the cells inside a womb
are more important than those around them.

They didn’t mention that if I tried to be
a career woman
and a mother
that people would ask
how?

That trying to have it all
would earn criticism
instead of praise.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I am going to be a woman,
but I’d like to be a human, too. ”

I have forgotten how to write one. ”

GUYS I am finally writing a little again and have started working on a Love Notes project: a compilation of love notes from different kinds of people (for example, the doctor’s note I posted earlier tonight). Is this something that people would be interested in reading and/or purchasing if I put something physical together?

Happy thought: Imagine that somewhere in the world, someone's getting married, or just got asked out, or had someone say "I love you", brought home their baby, saved a puppy's life. Now, imagine someone a year from now thinking this exact same thought, that somewhere something wonderful is happening, and at that moment it's happening to you.

I keep starting pieces and deleting them. I’m out of ideas.
